Mission Statement
Omaha Performing Arts is dedicated to enriching the lives of the citizens of Omaha and surrounding communities through the presentation of the finest local, national and international artistic performances. This mission is achieved through the management and stewardship of its two facilities, the Holland Performing Arts Center and Orpheum Theater; the presentation of high quality performing arts events through its Presents series; and community commitment through education and outreach, bringing arts to diverse audiences such as students and low-income and at-risk populations.
About Us
Founded as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in June 2000, Omaha Performing Arts is dedicated to the notion that the arts are an integral part of the human spirit and truly essential to what Nebraskans know as the good life.
Omaha Performing Arts Presents
As a presenting organization, Omaha Performing Arts brings performing artists, productions, and ensembles of the highest caliber to Omaha. Audiences enjoy a variety of world-class artists in five Presents series: Classical Now, Dance, Jazz, Popular, and Broadway. Omaha Performing Arts also shines a spotlight on the hottest up-and-coming artists in its 1200 CLUB series, and offers free outdoor entertainment in the summer with Jazz on the Green and Music and Movies.
Two Incredible Venues
In addition, Omaha Performing Arts manages and maintains the Orpheum Theater with its 2,600-seat Slosburg Hall, and opened the Holland Performing Arts Center in October 2005. This first-rate venue includes the 2,000-seat Peter Kiewit Concert Hall, the 400-seat Suzanne and Walter Scott Recital Hall, and a semi-enclosed outdoor courtyard with a capacity of up to 1,000. Over 300,000 people attend events at these venues every season.
Education and Community Involvement
Central to the organization’s mission are educational programs and community outreach efforts that encourage young people and adults to fully appreciate and participate in the performing arts. Omaha Performing Arts’ Education and Community Involvement Programs serve to bring the arts to the broad community, including students and low-income and at-risk populations whose circumstances, financial or otherwise, inhibit their ability to regularly experience the performing arts. Education programs allow students to make connections between the performing arts and their classroom curriculum, personal interests, and career and education goals. A variety of community involvement programs provide free access to the performing arts through community events, reaching low-income or communities-at-risk by providing tickets free or at a deeply discounted cost. More than 15,000 students and community members participate in these programs in one year.
Integral to Omaha's Cultural Life
Omaha Performing Arts continues to gain acclaim by local and national media outlets for its role in the Omaha community, and the role it serves in providing exceptional experiences for patrons across the country. Recently, Omaha Performing Arts was named the 2008 Non-Profit Organization of the Year by the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, and the fourth largest non-profit organization in Omaha by the Midlands Business Journal Book of Lists. National and regional media attention includes features by the CNBC Mike’s Lunchbox, the Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, Architectural Record, the Dallas Morning News, Kansas City Star, Travel & Leisure Magazine, US Federal News, and many others.
